The Fresh Market in Midtown set for August 13 opening

Midtown grocery shoppers will have another healthy option when The Fresh Market opens its doors on August 13 at the former Ike’s location at 2145 Union Avenue. The specialty grocer will boast an opening day staff of 90 inside the company's second store in the Memphis area and eighth in the state of Tennessee.

"We are excited to open our new store in Memphis and to expand our reach in Tennessee," said Craig Carlock, the company's President and Chief Executive Officer, in a prepared statement. "We look forward to introducing The Fresh Market's concept of quality perishables, excellent customer service and a unique atmosphere to an expanded customer base, and we look forward to offering neighboring communities a rewarding new food shopping experience."

The 23,400-square foot store will feature a bakery with 30 freshly baked breads and 14 different pie varieties daily, a full-service meat counter, a wide selection of ready-to-serve entrées, fresh seafood delivered to the store several times per week, more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses, and a produce department with more than 400 items and a large organic selection.

Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, and grand opening activities are scheduled to include chef demonstrations, food samplings, and drawings for The Fresh Market gift cards. The first 1,000 customers will receive a free sample-sized bag of the company’s gourmet coffee and a free reusable shopping bag.

Further expansion in the Memphis market is likely.

"We continue to enjoy success in Memphis and will continue to consider additional locations, though we don't have any details to provide at this time," says Drewry Sackett, Fresh Market PR/Community Relations Manager. "We're excited to open our new store on August 13 and look forward to serving this community and providing residents here with The Fresh Market’s unique shopping experience."

The Fresh Market currently employs approximately 11,900 people nationwide at 159 stores in 26 states.
