All-natural, zero-waste soap maker takes the leap from arts and crafts markets to first storefront

What’s happening: Budding entrepreneur Becky Beloin is preparing to make the leap from selling her products at area arts and crafts markets to opening her own storefront in Memphis. Boshi Botanicals, maker of all-natural artisan soaps and bath products, will celebrate their grand opening at the Chickasaw Oaks shopping center on Saturday, Nov. 4.

What it is: Boshi Botanicals makes soaps and other bath and body products with all-natural ingredients, including organic oils, butters, and essential oils. In addition to their organic ingredients, the company also emphasizes environmental-friendly packaging, presenting their products in ways that are minimalistic and plastic-free. The new storefront will feature a zero-waste refill station, which promotes reusable containers instead of disposable ones, and carry handcrafted goods from other like-minded Memphis-area makers, and especially from women- and minority-owned businesses.

Why it’s important: “Our goal at Boshi Botanicals is to offer great products that meet our values of being good for people and good for our planet,” says founder and CEO Becky Beloin. “We are proud to bring Memphis a store that meets the needs of consumers looking for natural, plastic-free products and for those who want to steer-clear of synthetic fragrances.”

Backstory: Beloin began making artisan soaps following her breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 38 in 2020. The soap-making served as both a means of art therapy and as a way to better control the ingredients she and her family would put on their bodies. She officially launched the company in June 2022, selling her products at local markets and online, before making the leap to a physical storefront this November.

What they’re saying: “There has to be a reason more and more young women are being diagnosed with breast cancer,” says Beloin. “No one will likely ever be able to tell me exactly what caused mine, but learning about environmental factors that could have contributed to it spurred me on my journey to find alternative products that I feel are safer for my body and better for our planet as a whole.”

Boshi Botanicals is located at 3092 Poplar Ave., Ste. 16, in the Chickasaw Oaks shopping center in Memphis. A grand opening celebration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
