Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis will host SheetRock ‘n’ Roll, a benefit dinner that will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, at Minglewood Hall. The event is part of Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, which will take place in Uptown’s Bearwater Park beginning Aug. 22.
SheetRock ‘n’ Roll guests will join President and Mrs. Carter and Habitat for Humanity to celebrate the Carter Work Project and Habitat’s life-changing work while enjoying food from a team of nationally renowned chefs led by Memphis’ own Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman and an exciting musical line-up curated by GRAMMY-Award winning producer Boo Mitchell. Ticer and Hudman, James Beard Award finalists, will be joined by James Beard semifinalist Kelly English from Restaurant Iris, along with James Beard winners from around the South – New Orleans’ Ryan Prewitt of Pêche and Stephen Stryjewski of Cochon; Chris Shepherd from Underbelly in Houston; and John Currence from City Grocery in Oxford. Chef Phillip Ashley Rix of Phillip Ashley Chocolates will treat guests to an exclusive flavor inspired by President Carter. Following dinner, guests will rock to the sounds of the North Mississippi Allstars, William Bell featuring the Hi Rhythm Section, and local American Idol Season 5 semifinalist Gedeon Luke and his sister, Evvie McKinney.

Funds raised from the evening will support Memphis Habitat’s continued work in Uptown, where it has focused its Neighborhood Revitalization program that features new home construction along with critical repairs on owner-occupied, single-family homes and commercial and historic properties. In 2012, Memphis Habitat announced its plan to build 50 new homes on vacant Uptown lots and complete 100 repairs projects and has since built 32 new homes in partnership with local families, completed repairs on more than 80 properties and improved the facades of three businesses that include community-inspired murals and four artistic bike racks. Habitat for Humanity’s 2016 Carter Work Project will take place in the Bearwater Park area of Uptown.
