Trustmark moves into new regional HQ and plans to hire

Trustmark National Bank is settling into its new regional headquarters in East Memphis, and the full-service financial institution anticipates making some significant hires later this year.

"The Memphis market is certainly an area of interest for Trustmark as a whole," says Trustmark Regional President Gene Henson. "Over the last several years we have seen fairly significant growth in the Trustmark presence here in the Memphis area."

Trustmark now occupies the first two floors of 5350 Poplar Avenue, which has been renamed Trustmark Centre. The bank obtained naming rights as a part of a 12.5-year lease signed by Trustmark Corp. last November.

"We now have our first presence inside the Interstate 240 loop," Henson says. "Our move to 5350 Poplar from our previous headquarters location in Germantown was indicative of the growth that we continue to have and a desire for greater visibility in the Memphis market."

Trustmark has been an active player in the local market through the acquisition of several local banks since the early 2000s.

Henson cites strategic hires during 2012 and 2013 in the area of commercial banking and commercial real estate, and he believes Trustmark is growing across all areas, including retail and small business banking services, private banking, investments, trusts and mortgage services.

"We are looking to grow and experiencing growth in all of those areas," Henson says. "I anticipate additional strategic hires during 2014, and I would clearly anticipate the possibility of additional branches in the future."

Trustmark employs 176 people in the Memphis area, including Shelby, DeSoto and Fayette counties. In March Trustmark converted five Somerville Bank & Trust branches in Fayette County, bringing its overall location count in the area to 23.

Overall Trustmark currently has 250 locations across the Southeast in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
