Accredo to build therapeutic resource center

Accredo Health Group has filed a $1.6 million building permit at 1680 Century City Parkway that is part of a larger overall campus renovation.

The building will house a new rare Therapeutic Resource Center where pharmacists and nurses who specialize only in very rare diseases will help patients across the country reach best possible health outcomes.

Accredo is Express Scripts’ specialty pharmacy that is based in Memphis. There are 20 Therapeutic Resources Centers across the U.S. that are home to specialized pharmacists, nurses, social workers and other care coordinators who focus on one specific disease, such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and hepatitis.

“By specializing in a single disease and those related medications, our specialists are able to deliver more sophisticated, comprehensive care than what is delivered through a typical retail pharmacy experience,” said David Whitrap, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Express Scripts.

The new Memphis facility will focus on rare diseases.

“We will focus on treating patients all across the country who live with life-threatening, rare diseases,” Whitrap said. “Because many of these patients may be the only person in their community with their condition, it’s critical that they have a centralized U.S. specialty pharmacy like Accredo who can surround them with the specialized knowledge and care they need to achieve the best possible health outcomes.”

Express Scripts is the largest pharmacy benefit manager in the U.S., serving 85 million people. With Memphis as one of its primary locations, Express Scripts has some 30,000 U.S. employees.
