Local youth dance school helps teens excel with new program

Ballet On Wheels Dance School & Company is looking for teenagers ages 15-18 to join their inaugural Teen Ambassador Program (TAP). Through a variety of volunteer projects and special events, high school students will serve as Teen Ambassadors and assist in raising awareness and interest in Ballet On Wheels via community service and volunteer efforts. This program is designed to attract a dynamic, service-oriented group of young individuals who have an interest not only in helping BOW, but in developing valuable leadership, marketing, non-profit and communication skills.

“Our goal is to inspire the next generation of leaders while exposing the value and transformative power of the arts,” said Karen Williams, Marketing Director for Ballet On Wheels.

TAP is open to all Shelby County High School Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. Teen Ambassadors will meet approximately six to eight times during the school year and participate in 3 to 4 service projects.  Leadership and community engagement opportunities and college recommendation letters will be provided to all members of this program.

Additionally, as a certifying organization for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service and administered by Points of Light, Ballet On Wheels will have the honor of bestowing this prestigious award to all Teen Ambassadors who have completed the required volunteer service hours. The President's Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program, encouraging citizens to live a life of service through presidential gratitude and national recognition.

To be considered for the TAP, submit your application no later than Friday, October 14, 2016 on line at www.balletonwheels.org.
