Local delegation promoted Memphis during travels to New York

Greater Memphis Chamber staff, members of the Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle and representatives from the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau were in New York City last week to meet with national site selectors and national media, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and others.

The trip was part of a strategic economic development plan to promote Memphis’ business assets and culture. The Chamber team travels to key target areas each year to recruit new jobs to Memphis, the primary focus of the Greater Memphis Chamber. Members of the Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle are on the trip providing an important business perspective with site selectors and media.

"Last year alone, the Chamber retained and recruited more than 6,300 jobs to the Memphis area, in part due to this strategy,” said Phil Trenary, President & CEO, Greater Memphis Chamber. "Additionally, meeting with these national media outlets is imperative to spreading the Memphis message throughout the world."

The Chamber has partnered with the Memphis Grizzlies, scheduling the economic development trips alongside games in these key cities and inviting business contacts to the games.  The Memphis Grizzlies captures the spirit of Memphis and is the perfect way to showcase some of Memphis’ heart and soul.

In 2014, Memphis received a significant amount of positive national press and the expectation is that 2015 will see even more recognition by national and international media outlets.
