TEDxMemphis event asks what's next for the city

Seventeen great minds are convening in Memphis to answer the question, 'What's next?' That's the theme Memphis' first public TEDx event to be held August 29

TED Talks are well revered for spreading ideas at U.S. and international forums. The independently organized TEDx events are meant to share that same vision at a smaller scale.

Patton Orr, a rising senior at Memphis University School, is the driving force behind bringing TEDx to Memphis. He first got the idea after learning of his sister's TEDx experience at the University of North Carolina, and he has been working in earnest for the past two and a half years to make a Memphis conference a reality.

"It's really about what's next for Memphis and ideas that can impact our city and reach across the nation as well," Orr said.

Speakers who are making a difference in Memphis include Robert Carter, Executive Vice President of FedEx information Systems and Dr. Scott Morris, Founder and CEO of the Church Health Center. For the whole lineup, see the TEDxMemphis website.

Tickets for event at the 920-seat University of Memphis Rose Theater go on sale August 1. Orr is expecting to tickets to sell out by the end of the weekend. Go here to reserve a seat.
