How to give back: Upcoming volunteer opportunities

While you enjoy the early summer weather and all the magic that happens here in May, make sure you leave some time to help create a greater Memphis by giving back. Here are some volunteer opportunities to consider, courtesy of Volunteer Memphis.

Special Events
May 2: Neighborhood Christian Center
is holding their annual Quizathon Bible Trivia event.
 
May 2: Latino Memphis needs volunteers for their Latino Memphis Festival and Cinco-K-Mayo.
 
May 4-8: MemphisFitKids is looking for upbeat volunteers to help promote good health through increased program awareness.
 
May 9: Shelby Farms Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help make Dog-A-Roo at the Outback a success.

May 9: Habitat For Humanity seeks volunteers for their Bluff City 10k Race.

May 15: #CoolKidsMemphis is looking for teens to volunteer for their Teen Volunteer Event at Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.
 
May 18: Dixon Gallery seeks volunteers to assist with Undercurrent, a monthly young professionals networking event from 5:30 – 10:30 p.m. but can take hour – 2.5 hour shifts.
 
May 19-20: Neighborhood Christian Center seeks volunteers to assist with screening and application process for low-income seniors and disabled residents to receive Window Air Conditioning Units.
 
May 22: Neighborhood Christian Center seeks volunteers to help prepare and serve dinner, facilitate fun children’s activities, set up and cleanup for Lovebuilders/Lovebuilders Kids from 6 to 9 p.m.
 
May 28: Tennessee Shakespeare Company seeks front of house volunteers as ticket sellers, will call list monitors, merch monitors, ushers, and runners for A Midsummer Night’s Dream production in June.

Ongoing Opportunities in May
Overton Park Conservancy needs volunteers to help with their dog park

Lichterman Nature Center is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and clean the animal areas.
 
Crisis Center is looking for hotline counselors to answer phone calls
 
The Kroc Center has multiple 3 month long volunteer opportunities that include working in aquatics, the arts, fitness, membership, recreation, worship and the challenge area. Must be at least 16 years old.

If you’ve never volunteered through Volunteer Memphis, register and complete the new volunteer orientation online. Click on the Become a Member tab to register. Then, click on the new volunteer orientation link on the home page.
