Memphis' next generation of fashion designers gear up for Memphis Fashion Week

What’s happening: This weekend marks the apex of Memphis Fashion Week, a series of events that celebrates the creative spirit of Memphis fashion designers both new and well-established. It’s an especially exciting weekend for the budding fashion designers enrolled in Arrow Creative’s Emerging Memphis Designer Project, many of whom could be showcasing their work in a public setting for the first time.

What’s planned: On Friday, May 12, it’s Fashion Night Out at Arrow Creative. Seven local fashion vendors will be on hand, selling vintage clothing, locally made jewelry, and more. The event runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and also features live music, wine, and snacks.

And then on Saturday, May 13, it’s the Emerging Designer Cocktail Party, the showcase for those designers accepted into the Emerging Memphis Designer Project (EMDP). More than 30 emerging Memphis fashion designers will showcase their work in a cocktail party setting with pop-up runway shows on the hour. Also held at Arrow Creative, the event takes place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and features the runway shows and ensuing award ceremonies, cocktails, music, and more.

Registration for each event, which offers tickets starting at $50, is available online.

About EMDP: The Emerging Memphis Designer Project is a yearly course for budding fashion designers that culminates with the Memphis Fashion Week event, enabling Memphians to take their ideas from the sketchbook to the runway. It’s a five-month course that utilizes the wisdom of Memphis’ professional fashion community. Those accepted work their way toward the big runway show, which also features cash prizes, partial scholarships, and more across several categories.

What they’re saying: “We are so proud of our Emerging designer’s success and have enjoyed watching them over the past five months bring their garments to life,” says Abby Phillips, Executive Director of Arrow Creative, the parent organization of Memphis Fashion Week and creator of the Emerging Memphis Designer Project.

Arrow Creative is located at 653 Philadelphia St. in Memphis.
