Help expand funding for transit

Did you know that Memphis Area Transit Authority has no dedicated, guaranteed funding stream, instead relying every year on grant makers and elected officials to determine their level of financial support? Over the last decade, MATA has faced declining funding from local, state, and federal sources. This loss, combined with decades of policies that spread out our communities and focused on automobiles over walkable and transit-accessible communities, affordable commutes, healthier people, and poverty reductions, have stretched public transit thin across our community.

Livable Memphis knows our city deserves better transit. Join them, Innovate Memphis, and Memphis Area Transit Authority in a discussion about MATA’s current funding sources and the search for increased and dedicated funding for public transportation in the Memphis metro. The session will cover current sources of local, state, and federal funding, as well as the results of an ongoing study into potential new sources of revenue for expanding and improving service, such as user fees, parking taxes, local gas tax, etc. Register by clicking here.
