Orange Mound celebrates with Can You Barbeque Contest

Memphis is invited to join the Orange Mound community in celebration of their 125th year commemoration for the 2nd annual Can You Barbeque Cooking Contest at Lewis Davis Park, the corner of Park/Pendleton/Deadrick.

Orange Mound was the first African-American neighborhood in the United States to be built by African-Americans.  Built on the grounds of the former Deaderick plantation, the Orange Mound subdivision was developed for African-Americans in the 1890s to provide affordable land and housing for the less wealthy.

The event is free and open to the public.
