Memphis is invited to join the Orange Mound community in celebration of their 125
th year commemoration for the 2
nd annual Can You Barbeque Cooking Contest at Lewis Davis Park, the corner of Park/Pendleton/Deadrick.
Orange Mound was the first
African-American neighborhood in the
United States to be built by African-Americans. Built on the grounds of the former Deaderick plantation, the Orange Mound subdivision was developed for African-Americans in the 1890s to provide affordable land and housing for the less wealthy.
The event is free and open to the public.
