Greenprint summit returns in June

On Thursday, June 23, the Memphis-Shelby County Office of Sustainability will host the second Bi-Annual Greenprint Summit in partnership with the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle and Hyde Family Foundations. The event will highlight regional speakers on their success with green infrastructure like parks, trails and bike lanes, and connect attendees to local leaders who are developing and activating community assets that will result in a higher quality of life for all.

Keynote speakers include Karl Dean, former Mayor of Nashville; Ryan Gravel, Sixpitch Founding Principal and Atlanta BeltLine Visionary; and Laura Morris, former Executive Director, Shelby Farms Park Conservancy.

“Mid-South communities are changing and growing. Investing in green spaces and protecting our parks is critical, now more than ever. This Greenprint Summit will give locals an opportunity to hear from experts on the importance of these investments and the benefits of green spaces for the livability, vitality, and success of our region,” said John Michels, Greenprint Coordinator.

The speakers will explore the impact of green spaces. Lesser known benefits of green spaces include the fact that proximity to a developed park improves property values. Around healthier community efforts, green spaces also help provide more opportunities for healthier lifestyles and help combat obesity, and green resources can mitigate air and water pollution impacts on public health. Developed park, trails and bike lanes are known to be a key factor in attracting people to cities.

The summit take place from 7:30am to 10:30am at the Memphis Botanic Gardens (750 Cherry Road, Memphis) and is free and open to the public. RSVP for the Greenprint Summit. The Greenprint Summit is made possible by the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle and Hyde Family Foundations.

High Ground's coverage of community sustainability efforts is made possible by Memphis Light, Gas and Water.
