SunTrust invests big in United Housing

SunTrust Mortgage recently donated $100,000 to United Housing, Inc., a local non-profit affordable housing agency that serves the City of Memphis, Shelby County, and West Tennessee. UHI targets its services to families that are under served by the traditional homeownership industry.

The funds will support sustainable homeownership for the residents by providing homebuyer education, foreclosure prevention, affordable lending products and construction services. The partnership aligns with SunTrust’s purpose of Lighting the Way to Financial Well-Being and the company’s recently launched movement to help everyone take steps toward financial confidence - at onUp.com.

Founded in 1994, as an affiliate of the United Way of the Mid-South, UHI has continue to serve Memphis and Shelby County by helping more than 3,000 families own a home. In January of 2000, UHI joined the NeighborWorksÒ America Network. Through this network UHI is linked to over 230 local nonprofits nationwide working to revitalize America’s declining neighborhoods.

In 2015, the organization invested $153,999 in down payment assistance, sold 17 homes for a $928,509 impact in the local real estate economy, and prevented 124 foreclosures for area homeowners. Through their programs, UHI counseled 836 families last year in homebuyer education and foreclosure prevention and helped more than 350 individuals become homeowners.
