A new hotel development is coming to the Pinch District

After a long wait and contention in the Memphis City Council, an agreement has been tentatively made allowing a new hotel to be built in the Pinch District.

Front Street Group LLC went before the Council this week to request a special use permit that would allow for the development. The extended stay hotel will be on Front Street at the intersection of Jackson Avenue, opposite of the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid. Construction of the full-service 108-room hotel will also include a retail space.

The agreement still must be formalized at the March 1 City Council meeting between the developers and neighborhood stakeholders, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The hospital originally opposed the development because of its planned multibillion-dollar expansion in the Pinch District. A development moratorium is still in place in the District.

The Memphis and Shelby County Office of Planning and Development and Land Use Control Board suggested the City Council approve the permit, and Front Street Group LLC asserts they have been working with Bass Pro, St. Jude, the Greater Memphis Chamber and other partners in the neighborhood for the past few months.
