Busy December on tap for Overton Square with popup shop, new restaurant and more

'Tis the season for shopping, and Overton Square has a local fix for everyone on your Christmas list.

The third annual Christmas Popup Shop is open for business seven days a week at 2092 Trimble Place, on the south side of the Square facing the parking garage.

The shop--open through December 27--is billed as "a month-long celebration of handcrafted giving." It is sponsored by Modern Handmade Memphis and the Memphis Etsy Team.

Handmade bath and body products, jewelry, accessories, vintage fashion, specialty food items, home décor, art and more are available Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m to 6 p.m.

In addition to the on-site offerings, an online shop launched this week.

"Adding an online store allows customers all around the world to get a little bit of Memphis for Christmas," said Tonya Tate, team captain with Modern Handmade Memphis.

The Overton Square popup shop will serve as a donation drop-off point for the St. Luke's United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Local artisans participating in the Christmas Popup Shop also are encouraged to donate goods to the YWCA Memphis Family Shelter, which serves homeless women, children and victims of domestic violence.

The popup shop isn't the only holiday excitement to hit Overton Square. The anticipated opening of CrazyBeautiful drops this week at 2111 Madison Ave. The retailer will host a grand opening celebration Thursday, December 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with giveaways and in-store specials.

Also, the Square and its tenants will host a holiday lighting ceremony on Thursday, complete with a Christmas tree lighting, marching band and choir.

On December 13, the Square's newest restaurant--Belly Acres--will hold its grand opening at 2102 Trimble. The casual, farm-to-table restaurant features a whimsical, kid-friendly design capped off by a one-seater racer plane designed to look like a crop duster flying through the restaurant's walls. Other farm components incorporated into the design include painted murals, wood paneling and a tractor outside the entrance.

Belly Acres is boasting a "citified farm fresh" motto, and its menu will focus on signature burgers made from grass-fed beef.
