Gould’s Day Spa expands downtown

Gould’s Salons and Spas has begun work on a new downtown location that will see the Memphis-based company expand its presence in the community.

Construction began in mid-September on a more than 5,000-square-foot space at 77 S. Main St. at the corner of Union Avenue. The new two-level site will provide a full range of services including hair cutting and color, spa services and Medi-Spa treatments.

Construction is expected to last through the fall with a possible opening in mid-December.

Gould’s is relocating from its basement location at The Peabody Memphis hotel, where it has been for more than 20 years.

“We want to be part of the downtown residential growth,” said Philip Gould, President of Gould’s Salons and Spas. “We want to be part of the renovation and growth downtown. We felt it’s important to expand downtown so we can serve as much of the community as possible.”

The space Gould’s is moving to has been vacant for several years. It provides a prime location near multiple new restaurant developments and residential growth in the Downtown core with plenty of visibility at Union and Main.

The location at The Peabody naturally drew customers who are visitors to the city, but Gould said the location has built a strong clientele of downtown residents and workers.

The location’s size is comparable to Gould’s other spas in the Memphis area. It will provide many of the same offerings at the other 10 spas in the Memphis area. But this location will be the first to have a men’s barber shop area. It also will have a patio for customers to enjoy.

Christopher Schmidt of CS Studio is the project architect. Ann Nordeen Parker of Parker Design Studio is the interior designer and Metro Construction is general contractor.
