Summer Avenue/Berclair

The Berclair area is a working class neighborhood with cozy homes and quiet streets. Its main drag, Summer Avenue, was once known as the “Highway of America” and over the years has been home to the world’s first Holiday Inn and Super D Drugstore as well as Memphis’ first McDonald’s. In the 1960s Summer Avenue was the antique mecca of Memphis, and today, it is a popular destination for thrift store shopping. Berclair is also home to Grahamwood Elementary, one of the city’s top primary schools.
