Kiki Whartenby

Kiki is a senior at St. Mary's Episcopal School. She currently serves as the editor in chief of The Tatler, her school's newspaper, and has been on staff since her sophomore year. Before that, she was a writer for Grrlpunch, an online magazine. She serves as the co-ambassador for the St. Mary's Facing History chapter and is a leader of the Minority Students Association. 

Julie McCullough

Julie McCullough grew up in Millington, Tenn. She received a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and M.A. in Teaching from the University of Memphis. She currently teaches CLUE for gifted students at Shelby County Schools. McCullough is behind architecture blog This Place in History.

Brandon Dahlberg

Brandon Dahlberg is a documentary photographer based in Memphis. A lifelong resident of the city, he earned his B.A. in English and M.F.A in Creative Writing from the University of Memphis. He has worked as a photographer in various capacities throughout the city, and loves telling visual stories.  

Sarah Jones

Sarah Galyean Jones is the Assistant Editor at Justine Magazine and the author of The Broken Haven (Lands Atlantic Publishing, 2016). She has contributed articles to Memphis Magazine, Citiscapes Magazine, and blogs occasionally on her site, "The Rough Draft". Sarah is a born-and-raised Memphian and now lives in Midtown with her golden retriever mix.

Stephanie Gonzalez

Stephanie Gonzalez is a Cooper-Young resident who grew up in Collierville and graduated from the University of Memphis. Her degree in journalism and fascination with cities and how people behave in them make urban development a natural area of interest. When not writing or people watching, you can find Stephanie sampling local beer, volunteering in her neighborhood or spending time with her pups.

Renee Davis Brame

 

Renee Davis Brame is a writer, actor and loyal Memphian.  She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Memphis.  Her work for the blog, Pop Depravity, earned an award from the National Society for Newspaper Columnist’s 2016 Column Contest. She is also the founder of theatre901, a virtual community for MidSouth artists of all genres.

Thelma Balfour

Thelma Balfour has been a freelance writer for USA Today and Newsweek. She also worked as a reporter for The Commercial Appeal, the daily newspaper in Memphis. She is the author of two books, Black Sun Signs: An African American Guide to the Zodiac and Black Love Signs.

Molly Mulroy

Molly Mulroy is a recent graduate with a B.A. from Loyola University New Orleans. A native Memphian, she's had a long-standing interest in social justice issues and enjoys storytelling in any form. Her recent podcast Outside covers the stories of four formerly incarcerated people from Louisiana and their struggles with reentry.

Aisling Maki

Aisling Maki is a writer and editor with awards from The Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists and Public Relations Society of America. Her work has appeared in publications in more than 20 countries and she has written locally for more than a dozen publications, including The Commercial Appeal, Memphis Flyer and Memphis Parent Magazine. She previously worked as a digital producer and weekend reporter for Action News 5, Memphis correspondent for the Agence France-Presse (AFP) and staff reporter for Memphis Daily News.

Cole Bradley is a native Memphian and graduate of the University of Memphis. Cole's worked locally as a researcher and community engagement strategist and began contributing to High Ground in Jan 2017.

Kim Coleman is a journalist with over 20 years of experience in newsrooms as a reporter, editor and graphic designer, including ten years with The Commercial Appeal as Design Director/Senior Editor and Print Planning Editor. 

 

Jim Coleman is a freelance writer, covering a variety of topics from high school sports, community news and small business. He has written for different news organizations over the past 20 years, including The Commercial Appeal, Community Weeklies, Lexington Herald-Leader and The Albuquerque Journal.

Kirstin Cheers is a native South Memphian and freelance journalist. She's written for The Tri-State Defender and is a current contributor for iLoveMemphis blog and Memphistravel.com. Professionally, she's the communications specialist at United Way of the Mid-South, a non-profit that supports agencies serving people living in poverty.
